Portrait of His "The Hiker"

The article (V. 49, No. 113, 3-13-23, P. 4:2) had a photo of the statue that is not reproduced here. It can be found on the Sculptures web page. -Ed.

Critics concede "The Hiker" to be one of the best of the numerous postbellum works which the sculptor, Goerge H. Honig, a former Indiana University student, has produced. The statue was erected in Fairmount Park, Denver, Colo. The realistic pose of the figure has earned many praises for the sculptor.

There is another mention of George in the February 13, 1894 issue of the Indiana Daily Student (V.20, No. 17, 2/13/94, P. 3:1). However, this issue was not available on microfilm. -Ed.
